In a crowded property industry, Janine really stands apart

Janine Van Niekerk

I met Janine van Niekerk through the Unity Business Network, and from the very beginning, Janine stood out, not because she was loud or sales-driven, but because she was quietly confident, present, and genuinely interested in the people around her. She has a natural generosity about her, always thinking of others, whether it’s popping little gifts into goody bags, supporting fellow members, or finding small ways to uplift the people in the room. Over time, I’ve seen that same care extend far beyond networking, from checking in on clients, to visiting people in hospital, to sending messages simply because someone crossed her mind. That kind of loyalty, empathy, and generosity is something really special.

And so, I’m happy to share this guest blog post today. Janine won this feature at one of the Unity Business Network events, and in a funny twist of timing, on my way to the event that day, I was already thinking about her and how she’d be such a lovely person to write about. When her name was pulled out of the proverbial hat, it really did feel like one of those “it’s meant to be” moments.

What follows is a closer look at what truly sets Janine apart in a very full industry, and why so many people trust her with one of life’s biggest decisions.

We all know that the property industry is full, full of agents, full of listings, full of promises, and full of noise. For clients, this can be overwhelming and often leaves people feeling lost and unsure of who to trust.

That’s where Janine van Niekerk stands apart.  Janine is with Realty, Cape Town.

Janine doesn’t lead with selling. She leads with listening. Before numbers, timelines, or mandates come conversations, real ones, where clients feel heard, understood, and supported. She takes the time to understand not just the property, but the people behind it, their concerns, their goals, and often their stress.

That people-first approach didn’t start with property.

Janine has always been a people-person, someone who enjoys solving problems and helping others find solutions. While working for one of Woolworths’ suppliers, she found herself increasingly drawn to real estate, not for the houses themselves, but for the opportunity to help people navigate big, often emotional life decisions.

The turning point came during Covid. A friend already in the industry let her know that an opportunity had opened for an estate agent in Edgemead. Janine jumped at it. After a three-hour interview on the Wednesday, she started the following Monday, attending a team sales course and stepping straight into a brand-new career.

Six years later, she’s still loving every minute of it.

Buying or selling a home is emotional. It’s not just a transaction, it’s a life shift. Janine brings genuine empathy into these moments, whether that means checking in during a difficult time, slowing things down when decisions feel heavy, or simply being present when clarity is needed most. This isn’t something she switches on for business, it’s part of who she is.

Behind the scenes, Janine’s strength lies in her admin and systems. She is detail-driven, conscientious, and committed to seeing things through to the end. Strong administration means fewer surprises, clearer processes, and smoother transactions, something clients may not always see, but always benefit from.

Clear communication is another cornerstone of how she works. Janine believes in putting agreements in writing and confirming everything via email. This creates certainty, protects everyone involved, and builds trust in an industry where miscommunication can quickly unravel deals.

Consistency is key in property, and Janine understands this deeply. She plans ahead, reviews her work daily, and keeps her pipelines active. Success, for her, isn’t about quick wins, it’s about steady, reliable outcomes for her clients, month after month, year after year.

Her results reflect this approach. From being awarded Rookie of the Year in her first year, to achieving consistent sales and new development successes, Janine’s track record is built on delivery rather than promises. She doesn’t overpromise, she follows through.

Janine also approaches property with a long-term mindset. She invests in ongoing education, attends industry seminars, and continues learning because she knows that no two transactions are ever the same. Growth, adaptability, and staying informed are non-negotiables in a career she sees as a lifelong profession.

Perhaps most importantly, Janine values trust. She’s careful about who she works with, ethical in how she operates, and acutely aware that reputation matters. Many of her clients return to her or refer others because they know she will handle their property journey with care, professionalism, and respect.

In an industry that’s crowded and competitive, Janine’s difference is simple, and powerful. She combines human connection with professional discipline.
And that combination makes all the difference.
